A Mouse in the House

9 Mar

A mouse in the house is a common occurrence living in the country. I have grown up fighting them off during the cold winter months, but I can’t think of anything I am more scared of then a mouse. They are ugly and disgusting and have no resemblance to the cute creatures we see on TV.

About a month ago my husband and I discovered we had a mouse in the house.  We live in a little old farmhouse so we weren’t surprised. We quickly purchased a few traps and during the first night they were out we had successfully caught the little critter. Thinking more might follow we left the traps out, but over the last couple of weeks we have been mouse free.

Mouse free that is…until last night. My Life in The Hills

My husband left last night for a week of videoing cattle out west. I crawled into bed and quickly fell asleep. I slept sound until about 4:30 this morning when I began to feel something moving on my back. I laid there a second wondering if I was dreaming, but soon realized something was in my bed. I jumped out of bed while glancing over my shoulder. Guess what I saw… a mouse running across the mattress. I screamed, but of course there was no one to listen. I stood on my bed for about 10 minutes in amazement wondering how I was ever to sleep in that bed again. Soon I came to my senses and decided to sleep on the couch. But sleep didn’t happen for a long time. I could not get the feeling of that mouse crawling on me. I still get chills thinking about it.  I guess if that is the worst thing that happens while my husband is gone I should count myself lucky.

Do you have your own mouse in the house stories?

Yuk!! We caught more than 20 in our house one summer when they cleared a vacant lot a few doors down from us. I was about ready to go and stay at the hotel!

20? That is crazy, you have trumped me. A friend told me this morning she once woke up with one in her hair.

I never had a mouse on me in the middle of the night, but I woke up to a scorpion on my chest in Georgia several years back. Not an enjoyable experience for me or the scorpion.

At least I knew the mouse couldn’t sting me. But there is just something about a mouse that just puts chills down my back.
